Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support GIS at customer substations across the United States. This on-site role involves hands-on engineering, installation, commissioning, testing, handover, and hands-on troubleshooting in live environments.

You will coordinate with customers and internal teams, supervise field technicians and subcontractors, and maintain thorough site documentation to ensure safe, reliable operation of critical power infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have work authorization to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred; diploma acceptable.
• Minimum 2–4 years in engineering or construction environments, power industry preferred.
• Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for field and customer-facing work.
• Ability to manage teams and address on-site conflicts.
• Proficiency with MS Office, including MS Project.
• Fluent English; other European languages beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support across GIS project phases: installation, commissioning, testing, acceptance, handover.
• Provide on-site supervision for GIS substation installations and commissioning.
• Lead troubleshooting with field personnel and subcontractors.
• Oversee maintenance activities to ensure quality and safety.
• Maintain site documentation: procedures, performance reports, test data, manuals.
• Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, and customers for smooth execution.
• Collaborate with customers on-site to achieve service outcomes and satisfaction.
• Ensure proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies at sites.
• Adhere to external/internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
