Copia Scientific is seeking a motivated Field Service Engineer to support our laboratory automation and instrumentation business. Based in California, you will cover the West Coast and occasionally travel nationwide for field support and training at our Boston headquarters.

You will troubleshoot, install, repair, and maintain instrumentation, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and communicate effectively with customers.

Qualifications

  • Experience with field service for laboratory automation and instrumentation.
  • Experience with liquid-handling or laboratory automation systems is desirable.
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman Coulter, Agilent, Thermo Fisher, Revvity, Opentrons) is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, mechanical and electrical aptitude, and ability to learn new equipment quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain laboratory automation and instrumentation.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective service, installations, relocations, and upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, robotic, and liquid-handling issues.
  • Provide professional, responsive customer support from initial diagnosis through resolution.
  • Complete service reports, parts usage, labor documentation, and customer-facing documentation accurately and on time.
  • Communicate job status, technical issues, and escalations clearly and promptly.
  • Support customers primarily throughout the West Coast, with cross-country travel when needed.
  • Travel to Copia Scientific headquarters in the Boston, Massachusetts area for training and cross-training as needed.

Job description

Copia Scientific is seeking a motivated, technically strong Field Service Engineer to support our growing laboratory automation and instrumentation business. This role is based in California, with primary responsibility for customers throughout the West Coast. The engineer will also provide cross-country field support when business needs require.

Direct experience with Tecan, Hamilton, or other laboratory automation platforms is preferred but not required. We are equally interested in candidates who demonstrate strong troubleshooting ability, mechanical and electrical aptitude, technical curiosity, and the ability to learn new equipment quickly. Training and cross-training will be provided for the right candidate, including travel to Copia Scientific headquarters in the Boston, Massachusetts area as needed.

Qualifications
  • Field service, laboratory automation, instrumentation, robotics, electronics, or related technical experience.
  • Experience with liquid-handling or laboratory automation systems highly desirable.
  • Experience with Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman Coulter, Agilent, Thermo Fisher, Revvity, Opentrons, or other laboratory instrumentation is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong customer-service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of customer issues.
  • Strong organization and documentation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently throughout the West Coast and occasionally across the United States.
