Job summary

EquipNet, Inc. is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support Hamilton and Tecan liquid handling platforms across biotech and clinical labs.

The role combines remote, on-site at our Cerritos warehouse, and client-site work, with refurbishment performed at our Cerritos facility and travel to client sites as needed. You will diagnose hardware/software issues, perform IQ/OQ/PQ, calibrations, and provide training while maintaining service records and collaborating with engineering and support teams.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience servicing, programming, or supporting Hamilton and/or Tecan liquid handling platforms.
  • Familiarity with Hamilton Venus and/or Tecan EVOware/FluentControl software.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities, including robotics and motion control.
  • Bench-level refurbishment experience in a shop/facility setting; client-facing field service.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (GLP/GMP, ISO, FDA/21 CFR Part 11) is a plus.

Job description

EquipNet helps the largest manufacturers in the world to buy, sell, and manage their surplus capital equipment.

Location: Cerritos, CA (within commuting distance candidates only, as this position will be a mix of onsite at our Cerritos warehouse, remote and working at client sites)

We are seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer specializing in Hamilton and Tecan automated liquid handling platforms to provide remote, on-site, and in-house facility support to biotech, pharmaceutical, and clinical laboratory clients. This role ensures optimal system performance, uptime, and compliance across a range of automated liquid handling and lab automation systems and includes hands‑on refurbishment work performed at our Cerritos facility as well as service at client sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide remote, on-site, and in‑facility technical support for Hamilton (STAR, STARlet, Vantage, Nimbus) and Tecan (Fluent, EVO) liquid handling systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, and application‑related issues, including robotic arms, pipetting channels, grippers, and integrated peripherals (plate readers, sealers, incubators, barcode readers).
  • Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and calibrations to meet manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Perform refurbishment and reconditioning of Hamilton and Tecan systems and components at our Cerritos facility, including disassembly, cleaning, parts replacement, reassembly, and functional testing to bring equipment back to spec prior to redeployment or resale.
  • Support installation, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and validation of new liquid handling systems and integrated automation workcells.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize automation scripts/methods (Hamilton Venus, Tecan EVOware/FluentControl).
  • Provide technical training and guidance to laboratory personnel on instrument operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, compliance records, and documentation of all service and refurbishment activities.
  • Partner with engineering, customer service, and technical support teams to expedite resolution of complex issues.
  • Extend support to adjacent lab automation platforms as needed (e.g., Beckman Biomek, Agilent Bravo).
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience servicing, programming, or supporting Hamilton and/or Tecan liquid handling platforms required.
  • Working knowledge of Hamilton Venus and/or Tecan EVOware/FluentControl software.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills (robotics, pneumatics, motion control systems).
  • Comfortable performing bench‑level refurbishment and repair work in a shop/facility setting in addition to client‑facing field service.
  • Familiarity with LIMS, scheduling software, or lab automation integration is a plus.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on compliance, accuracy, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in client environments while maintaining a professional, service‑oriented approach.
  • Must be willing and able to work both at our Cerritos facility and at client sites as business needs require.
  • Must be local to Cerritos, CA.
Experience & Education
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Life Sciences, or related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience).
  • 3-5+ years of field service or technical support experience with Hamilton and/or Tecan liquid handling systems, ideally in biotech, pharma, or clinical diagnostic environments.
  • Prior experience with equipment refurbishment, reconditioning, or bench repair work is a plus.
  • Experience with other automation plat

  • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office Suite.
