Summary:
The Field Service Mechanic Crew Chief provides hands-on technical and operational support for Reciprocating Compression equipment and utility systems within customer facilities. Responsibilities include commissioning, start-up, operations, preventive and corrective maintenance, performance testing, and troubleshooting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and serve as the technical expert for an assigned crew.
- Act as a technical SME in all areas of Field Service support, providing mechanical and technical services to internal and external customers in various settings such as workshops, compressor stations, and process plants.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of the company’s products and services.
- Perform thorough testing of equipment before release for operational use.
- Supervise quality control processes to ensure high customer service standards and prevent service failures.
- Ensure safety compliance by briefing personnel on safety guidelines, ergonomic practices, and maintaining work areas.
- Perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting boxes up to 50 pounds.
- Examine equipment in outdoor conditions, walk long distances, and share company vehicles at customer sites.
- Conduct pre-task safety briefings before operations.
- Plan, implement, and manage work assignments effectively.
- Follow management instructions and work in the best interest of the company.
- Discipline, counsel, and coach staff, providing written assessments when necessary.
- Communicate activities and issues with relevant departments.
- Travel 200-300 days per year, with trips lasting 2-14 weeks.
- Work extended hours, up to 14 hours per day, including weekends and holidays, with a typical week of 60-84 hours.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in Reciprocating Compression.
- Meet all sublevel requirements (FST I, II, III & IV).
- Attributes: safety-focused, service-oriented, business-minded, self-starter, dependable, mature, organized, results-driven, and excellent communicator.
- Education: Associate’s Degree in a technical field (Bachelor’s preferred) or equivalent work experience; formal technical training in the oil and gas industry; completion of Reciprocating Compression Systems product training.
- Mastery of core competencies, advanced tooling, engine and compressor theory, OEM and non-OEM knowledge, shop math, computer skills (Word & Excel), and product documentation.
- Advanced leadership skills, engine balancing, web deflection/alignment, and product knowledge.
