Job summary

City of Huntington Beach seeks a Field Service Representative for the Public Works Utilities Division to provide high-quality customer service in both field and office settings. The role involves meter reading, MTU maintenance, and work with the City’s AMI system to support water billing procedures.

Ideal candidates will be dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of adapting to changing assignments while maintaining professional communication with residents and contractors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of public contact and customer service experience.
• California Class C driver's license with acceptable driving record; PC 832 certification within 12 months when assigned to Business License or Public Works Refuse; AWWA Water Use Efficiency Practitioner certification within 12 months when assigned to Public Works Utilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections to ensure licensing, refuse franchise, and municipal code compliance; schedule inspections and maintain records of daily findings and violations.
• Inspect residential and commercial properties; conduct follow-up investigations and issue notices for non-compliance.
• Investigate licensing concerns; review and process new licenses and renewals; manage related permits and fees.
• Serve as liaison between customers, City, and contractors to resolve service issues and billing concerns; take corrective action as needed.
• Coordinate with contracted refuse hauler, city departments, and finance to resolve billing problems and perform account maintenance.
• Assist with processing of utility and refuse service applications; turn services on/off and pull meters as required; identify occupancy certificates for master-metered developments.
