Job summary

Atoms, based in San Francisco, seeks a senior safety operations leader to own the operational safety machinery for our autonomous fleet. You will manage incidents, triage events, design training, and maintain safety data while partnering with engineering to drive hazard analysis and changes.

The role requires 6–8+ years in safety domains, strong investigations experience, and fluency with risk methods. On-site, on-call, with a competitive base salary and equity.

Qualifications

• 6-8+ years in safety operations or safety-critical domains.
• Experience leading investigations to root cause and driving corrective actions to closure.
• Fluency with structured investigation and risk methods (root cause analysis, causal factor charting, human factors analysis, hazard identification).
• Data-driven by default; comfortable querying event data; SQL and basic scripting expected.
• Working knowledge of US vehicle regulatory environment (NHTSA, FMCSA, SAE J3016, ODD).
• Calm under live incidents; rigorous when needed; able to say stop when required.
• Willingness to be on-site and on-call.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end incident management: detection, notification, severity, on-site coordination, containment, investigation, corrective action, closure.
• Build a pipeline to turn field telemetry, disengagements, and reports into a ranked adjudicated queue; manage taxonomy and severity.
• Design training and recurrent-qualification programs for safety drivers and autonomous operators.
• Own the safety metrics set and reporting cadence; ensure records withstand scrutiny.
• Serve as the channel transferring field reality into product with the Head of Safety.
