Job summary

Summit is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to support all levels of inspection on diverse roadway projects in Richmond, VA. The role involves field testing, measurements, and documentation to ensure compliance with specifications.

The position requires attention to detail, strong math skills, and the ability to read plans and communicate effectively with agency personnel and contractors.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required with basic mathematics knowledge.
• Ability to perform field inspections, tests, and calculations with supervision as needed.
• Capable of reading roadway, bridge and structure plans and specifications.
• Must be able to walk rough terrain and work up to 12 hours in a day when required.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in inspecting roadways and structures and perform calculations with supervision.
• Collect materials weigh tickets and conduct roadway tests to verify specifications.
• Maintain daily project records and prepare monthly estimates.
• Read plans and blueprints and take field measurements for pay quantities.
• Monitor inspection work on highway projects and communicate with contractors and agency staff.
