Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Technical Services Technician to provide remote and field support for machinery, automation systems, and electrical controls. You will diagnose issues, configure components, and document service activities while contributing to upgrades and AI training initiatives.

The role requires 2–5 years of servo and HMI experience, PLC programming, and travel up to 30%. Excellent communication in English and ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree preferred.
• 2–5 years' experience with servo systems, HMI software, and safety controllers.
• PLC programming experience preferred.
• Experience with pneumatic systems, vision systems, VFDs, sensors, safety devices.
• Experience with 230V and 480V AC systems.
• Experience with multi-axis servo-driven equipment (Allen-Bradley, Rexroth).
• Ability to configure and maintain virtual machines.
• Willingness to travel up to 30% for field service.
• Strong English communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Respond to customer and field technician requests via phone, email, and text.
• Diagnose and resolve machinery hardware, software, network, and control issues.
• Configure electrical components prior to shipment.
• Document service calls and contribute to continual improvement and AI training.
• Wire, test, and troubleshoot PLCs, servo drives/controllers, safety relays/controllers, VFDs, HMIs.
• Develop machinery upgrade kits including wiring and programming changes.
• Participate in programming, testing, installation, and validation activities.
• Create technical bulletins, guides, and procedures.
• Remotely troubleshoot PLC programs, servo systems, and machine networks.
• Perform field service work including electrical upgrades and repairs.
• Support Ethernet and Profinet network setup and troubleshooting.
