Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking a qualified Inspector for the Houston Water/Waste Water Operations division to perform inspections of public infrastructures and ensure conformance to project specifications and contract documents.

You will conduct on-site inspections, coordinate measurements, prepare field notes and reports, and review drawings to support municipal projects. A valid Texas driver's license is required and veterans may receive preference.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• Four years of skilled construction experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field may substitute for up to four years of experience; vocational training may substitute year-for-year.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections of public infrastructures for cleaning and television projects to ensure conformance to project specifications and contract documents.
• Conducts on-site inspections and enforcement of work being performed by contractors in compliance with the related contract plan and specifications and the City of Houston codes and ordinances.
• Coordinates and conducts various types of measurements, inspections, and reviews to assure conformance with technical specifications.
• Performs inspections, identifies problem areas and recommends solutions. Prepares and submits field notes, checklists, logs, and technical reports for various job sites.
• Performs record keeping activities to maintain filing systems, reports and documentation.
• Reviews drawings and specifications for a variety of municipal projects.
• Meets with the general public, contractors, technical professionals and businesses to respond to inquiries and technical problems. Handles citizens' complaints and other job-related issues.
