Field Project Engineer - Construction Oversight

Job summary

HDR is seeking a Resident Project Representative to support field construction at multiple sites in the Southwest. You will read and interpret drawings, maintain daily activity records, review materials for contract compliance, track quantities, and prepare pay estimates.

You will chair progress meetings, observe installation and acceptance testing, identify nonconforming work, develop punch lists, and assist with project audits and closeout, under supervision of senior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience.
• EIT certification or PE license.
• Fundamental understanding of contracts; familiarity with codes and laws governing construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies.
• Ability to work in a team environment; strong collaboration.
• Computer literate; experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Active participant in an employee‑owned culture.
• Sponsorship (visa) for US employment authorization is not available.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies or conflicts.
• Maintain accurate daily records of contractor activities and the labor, equipment, and materials used.
• Review construction materials for contract compliance.
• Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance.
• Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings.
• Conduct observations of installation and acceptance testing of equipment and systems.
• Identify nonconforming work; develop punch lists and maintain until corrected.
• Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance.
• Assist with project audit/closeout.
• Work under supervision of a senior Resident Project Representative or Design Project Manager.
• Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants.
