Job summary

R.P. Lumber in Champaign, IL is looking for an Outside Sales Representative to grow contractor and builder business.

You will sell lumber and building materials to contractors, developers, property managers, realtors, and homeowners, coordinating with store teams to keep orders, deliveries, and pricing on track. The role is field-based, with travel within the territory; an associate degree or equivalent training plus a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent training, or 1–2 years of related experience
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Ability to use BisTrack (point of sale), Word and Excel, estimating software
• Ability to do basic business math including rates, ratios, percentages
• Strong communication, presentation, and follow-through skills
• Ability to keep information confidential
• Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and travel as needed

Responsibilities

• Build a prospect list from referrals, directories, trade activity, online sources, and local market knowledge
• Travel the territory to call on current and prospective customers; follow up by phone, email, and text
• Handle assigned contractor and customer accounts
• Match customer project needs with company products and services
• Attend trade shows when directed
• Maintain current accounts and sales materials; help plan volume and profit goals
• Coordinate deliveries and resolve product or service issues
• Assist with inside counter sales when in-store
• Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager
