Job summary

American Water seeks entry-level personnel for meter reading, maintenance, and line locating. Responsibilities include safe operation of equipment, accurate meter readings, and upkeep of hydrants, valves, and facilities.

You will learn to use multiple technologies and potentially advance in union seniority with additional training. Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent, and an ability to obtain a Class A CDL with air brake endorsement within 180 days.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain Class A CDL with air brake endorsement within 180 days of employment.
• Water Treatment D or DS1 or ability to obtain within first year of employment.
• Mechanical, plumbing, construction, water and/or wastewater experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties safely in accordance with company policies and regulations.
• Obtain accurate meter readings using multiple technologies.
• Maintain facilities, equipment and tools with attention to safety and cost.
• Locate and operate distribution assets and hydrants, valves, wells, and wastewater plant equipment.
• Read, write, and learn operating procedures for pipe and appurtenances.
