Job summary

Verizon Communications seeks a field-focused Telecommunications Technician to install, monitor, and maintain high-speed network equipment both at Verizon facilities and on customer sites. You will ensure fiber network integrity and support Ethernet services up to 1 GB.

Responsibilities include assembling ROADM gear, installing Cisco routers, conducting fiber splicing, and coordinating turn-up with multiple teams. Heavy lifting and on-call rotations are required, with a 25% travel expectation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or 1+ year relevant experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Willingness to travel up to ~25% of the time.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the job.
• Willingness to work on-call, rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of transmission equipment from Cisco, Siemens, Fujitsu, Alcatel, and Ciena.

Responsibilities

• Install, monitor, test, and maintain telecom equipment in facilities and on customer sites.
• Maintain fiber optic network integrity for optimal customer experience.
• Assemble, install, test, and turn up high-speed transport equipment (e.g., Ciena, Tellabs, Fujitsu ROADM).
• Install Cisco routers and Ethernet systems to support up to 1 GB services.
• Perform fiber locates, coordinate with outside plant engineering for construction/relocation.
• Splice and terminate fiber for new builds and restorations; troubleshoot circuits.
• Use test equipment to locate and resolve outages; coordinate test/turn-up with local and remote groups.
