Job summary

Verizon is hiring for a field telecom technician responsible for installation, monitoring, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic and related equipment at technical facilities and customer sites.

You will assemble and turn up high-speed transport gear, install Cisco routers, perform fiber locates, splicing, and coordinate tests with local and remote teams. Travel up to 25% and on-call shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or one or more years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Willingness to travel up to approx. 25% of the time.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without accommodation.
• Willingness to work on-call, rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of equipment from Cisco, Siemens, Fujitsu, Alcatel and Ciena.

Responsibilities

• Install, monitor, test and maintain telecommunications equipment in technical facilities and on customer sites.
• Assemble, install, test and turn up high-speed transport equipment (e.g., Ciena, Tellabs, Fujitsu) and ROADM gear.
• Install Cisco routers and Ethernet systems to provide services up to 1 Gbps.
• Perform fiber locates and coordinate with engineering for construction/relocation.
• Conduct fiber splicing and termination for new builds and restorations.
• Troubleshoot and isolate faults to maintain customer circuits.
