Job summary

Jefferson County Building Safety is seeking a Mechanical & Plumbing Inspector to perform field inspections across the county, evaluating mechanical and plumbing installations for compliance with codes, plans, and permits. The role involves reviewing plans, explaining requirements, and issuing correction notices when needed.

The inspector will document findings, support enforcement actions, and maintain thorough records while collaborating with a skilled team of professionals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of inspector experience in construction trades.
• P1 – Residential Plumbing Inspector & P2 – Commercial Plumbing Inspector (or Journeyman/Master Plumber).
• Experience with AMANDA database or similar inspection systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections for mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Ensure compliance with adopted building codes and permit requirements.
• Review blueprints, diagrams, and construction documents.
• Explain code requirements to contractors, owners and officials.
• Identify violations and issue correction notices and enforcement documents.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and reports.
• Provide field training and guidance on procedures and code interpretations.
• May testify in court when required.
