Job summary

Jefferson County is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Plumbing Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on trade experience, a strong understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems, and a thorough knowledge of permitting and inspection processes.

The successful candidate will conduct inspections to verify compliance with codes, plans, and permit requirements while guiding contractors and property owners.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years in inspector role; trades background helpful.
• P1–Residential Plumbing Inspector & P2–Commercial Plumbing Inspector (or Journeyman/Master Plumber).
• Preferred: five years combined experience with two years as inspector and three years in construction trades.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections countywide for mechanical, plumbing, and building safety as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with adopted building codes and reviewed plans/diagrams.
• Explain code requirements and installation standards to contractors and property owners.
• Identify violations and issue correction notices, stop-work orders, and other enforcement documentation.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and related documentation.
