Job summary

Jefferson County Public Health is seeking a Code Compliance Specialist to enforce county environmental regulations, including septic and solid waste codes. The ideal candidate is a good communicator who is comfortable in both education and enforcement roles, performing professional code enforcement and handling investigations and hearings.

The position offers a Grade 31 starting pay of $32.98/hour with a full range of $32.98–$40.57/hour, DOE, plus benefits including medical, dental, vision,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or law-related field with experience involving extensive public contact and field inspections/investigations.
• Associate's degree in law enforcement, paralegal or similar discipline with two years related field experience in code enforcement, including direct public contact in inspection/enforcement areas.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve complaints related to environmental codes.
• Interpret codes and write notices of violations and staff reports.
• Keep records and prepare documentation for hearings and legal proceedings.
• Interact with property owners and other County and Washington State departments to bring properties into compliance.
• Appear in hearing examiner and legal proceedings as required.
