Job summary

Jefferson County seeks an experienced Mechanical & Plumbing Inspector to join the Building Safety Division. The role conducts inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial projects to verify code compliance, plans, and permit adherence, providing clear guidance to contractors and property owners.

The Inspector reviews blueprints and construction documents, explains requirements, and issues correction notices or stop-work orders as needed.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.
Three years of inspector experience in construction trades.
P1 – Residential Plumbing Inspector & P2 – Commercial Plumbing Inspector (or Journeyman/Master Plumber License).
Ability to conduct field inspections and communicate findings clearly.

Responsibilities

Conduct field inspections for mechanical, plumbing, and building safety as assigned.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes and permit requirements.
Review plans, blueprints, diagrams, and other construction documents.
Explain code requirements and technical standards to contractors, property owners, and the public.
Identify code violations and issue correction notices and stop-work orders as needed.
Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and related documentation.
Provide field training and guidance on construction procedures and inspections.
Testify in court when required.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
