Job summary

City of Lynnwood is seeking a Mechanical / Plumbing Inspector to support the Development Services Department. This role provides mechanical and plumbing plan review and field inspections for residential, commercial, and public projects, ensuring compliance with IMC, UPC and Washington State codes.

The ideal candidate has extensive inspection experience, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to public safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; trade school or apprenticeship completion preferred
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in mechanical and/or plumbing inspection or related trade
• ICC Mechanical Inspector and ICC Plumbing Inspector certifications required
• Washington State Journey-Level or Master Plumber license preferred
• Valid Washington State Driver's License
• Expert knowledge of IMC, UPC, and Washington State Mechanical and Plumbing Codes
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software
• Proficient in written and verbal English
• Exceptional customer service and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and plumbing plan reviews for residential, commercial, and public building projects
• Review drawings and calculations for compliance with IMC, UPC, and Washington State codes
• Approve or disapprove plans, alterations, and changes; document decisions
• Conduct field inspections for HVAC, ventilation, exhaust, water supply, drainage, and gas piping
• Issue notices of violation and orders; document code violations
• Communicate effectively with the public, developers, contractors, and agencies
• Monitor, track, and report on development status using SmartGov and Bluebeam

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

ICC Mechanical Inspector certification

ICC Plumbing Inspector certification

Washington State Journey-Level license

Washington State Master Plumber license
