Job summary

City of Ann Arbor is seeking a Mechanical Inspector to enforce the Michigan Mechanical Code across residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. You will inspect systems, review permits, document results, and advise on compliant installations.

Required are a High School Diploma, a Michigan mechanical license in three categories with at least one year of related experience, CEU maintenance, and ACT 407 registration. Union representation AFSCME applies; benefits are provided.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Michigan mechanical license in three of four categories with at least one year experience.
  • Complete CEU requirements for license maintenance.
  • Act 407 registration or enrollment within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections of mechanical systems to ensure compliance with the Michigan Mechanical Code and local regulations.
  • Review permit applications and mechanical plans for compliance before inspections.
  • Inspect HVAC, refrigeration, and related systems and identify code violations with corrective actions.
  • Document inspection results with detailed reports and photographs.
  • Provide guidance on mechanical code requirements to contractors and building owners.
  • Respond to public inquiries and maintain knowledge of current codes and standards.
  • Stay updated on changes to codes and participate in professional development.
  • Collaborate with city departments and stakeholders to ensure community safety.

Education

High School Diploma or GED
Michigan mechanical license in three of four categories with at least one year experience
CEU maintenance for licenses
ACT 407 registration within 30 days of hire
