Job summary

City of Royal Oak, MI is seeking a Mechanical Inspector to enforce the State Mechanical Code at Royal Oak City Hall and manage HVAC-related inspections.

Responsibilities include inspecting installations, reviewing plans, issuing permits, and handling complaints with mature judgment. The role requires state inspector qualifications, a valid driver's license, and strong documentation skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Currently registered, or eligible to become registered as a "Mechanical Inspector" and “Plan Reviewer", by the State of Michigan.
• Licenses: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Inspect all mechanical installations during construction and upon completion for compliance with the State Mechanical Code and approved specs.
• Enforce the State Mechanical Code and related City, State and County regulations affecting mechanical installations.
• Assist contractors and homeowners in permit applications and issue permits.
• Inspect replacement furnaces, air conditioning and related equipment under permits.
• Review plans for HVAC systems in new and renovated buildings.
• Investigate complaints regarding mechanical installations in all buildings.
• Verify installations are performed only by licensed contractors as required by state law.
• Prepare reports and maintain records.
• Perform related work as assigned.
