Job summary

City of Ann Arbor is seeking a Plumbing Inspector to perform inspections of plumbing systems in construction, renovation, and repair, ensuring conformity with the Michigan Plumbing Code and city regulations.

Responsibilities include reviewing permits and plans, identifying violations, keeping detailed records, and advising contractors and homeowners on code requirements; staying current with code updates and coordinating with other departments for community safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
• Act 407 (formerly Act 54) registration or application within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conducts inspections of plumbing systems during construction, renovation and repair to ensure compliance with the Michigan Plumbing Code and city codes.
• Inspects plumbing installations, including water supply, drain, sewer systems and backflow devices.
• Review permit applications, plumbing plans, and specifications prior to inspections.
• Identify code violations and substandard installations, issue corrective action notices.
• Maintain records of inspection results, reports and photographs; trace corrective actions to compliance.
• Provide technical assistance and advice to contractors, homeowners, and building owners regarding plumbing code requirements.
• Respond to public inquiries, complaints related to plumbing and code enforcement.
• Stay current on Michigan Plumbing Code changes and industry standards via continuing education.
• Work with other departments to ensure safety and integrity of plumbing systems.
• Assist with development of policies, procedures, and guidelines for inspections and code enforcement.
