Job summary

City of Slidell is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform semi-skilled to skilled tasks in the repair and upkeep of city properties, equipment, and infrastructure. The role requires operating various small engines and vehicles, and handling drainage and concrete work as part of routine maintenance.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and at least two years in a related field or six months with the City of Slidell.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; and valid driver's license.
  • Two years experience in related field or six months with City of Slidell in related field.
  • Any equivalent combination of higher education and experience; full-time related experience may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains pickup trucks, power mowers, and other small engine equipment.
  • May remove and replace prefabricated street signs, stops signs, and posts.
  • May perform general janitorial work, including operating mobilized scrubbing equipment, pressure washers, brooms, mops, etc.
  • Set up and removal of seasonal decorations and barricades for special events.
  • May install, repair, and maintain sub-surface drainage systems, culverts, and catch basins.
  • May perform the forming, pouring, finishing, or removing of concrete.
  • May change tires, light bulbs, windshield wipers and various small vehicle and equipment repairs.
  • May perform scheduled services on vehicles, tools, equipment and drainage pump station facilities.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
