Job summary

The City of Slidell is seeking a mid-level supervisory professional to oversee the maintenance and repair of the city’s vehicles and equipment, guiding both hourly and skilled staff. You will plan work, assign tasks, review results, order parts under budget, enforce safety, and mentor shop personnel while coordinating with the Fleet Manager and Public Works leadership.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six years of automotive/diesel experience preferred; education may count toward experience.
• Two years of leadership/supervision experience required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews the work of subordinates and advises on policies and procedures.
• Instructs subordinates on safe methods of operating and repairing/maintaining vehicles and equipment.
• Plans, organizes and schedules work for crews of skilled and unskilled workers.
• Estimates material costs and orders items to complete jobs.
• Supervises and assists all shop personnel in vehicle maintenance and repairs.
• Generates work orders, prioritizes jobs, and performs quality control checks.
