Job summary

City of South Padre Island seeks a Maintenance Technician to perform semi-skilled maintenance of street and drainage systems and operate a range of equipment. The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, at least one year of related experience, and a valid driver’s license; CDL is preferred and bilingual Spanish/English is a plus. Training and supervision may be provided on the job.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• CDL certification is preferred.
• A valid state driver’s license.
• Bilingual: Spanish and English preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: maintenance/repair knowledge, equipment operation, safe practices.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and repairs streets and drainage systems to ensure proper operation.
• Installs and repairs street signs.
• Operates a variety of maintenance equipment used in the street department.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Cleans and maintains public restrooms; beach cleanup and debris removal.
• Road repair with asphalt and gravel as needed.
• Trains other staff when assigned.
• Adheres to safety and security standards.
