Job summary

S&ME, Inc. is seeking a Construction Materials Engineering Technician for field and laboratory testing on construction projects in Knoxville, TN.

You will work outdoors at active sites and receive hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities to advance within a leading civil engineering and consulting team. You will perform material testing on concrete, soils, and asphalt, collect samples, interpret results, and prepare reports while collaborating with engineers and project teams to ensure

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels.
• Active industry certifications such as ACI Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Technician or ICC Special Inspector are strongly valued.
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
• Basic math proficiency including understanding of measurements and units of weight.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and laboratory testing on construction materials (concrete, asphalt, soil, aggregates).
• Collect and prepare samples for analysis.
• Interpret test results and prepare detailed reports.
• Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and project managers to meet specifications and safety guidelines.
