Job summary

Fairfax County Public Schools is seeking an IT Support Services technician to install, troubleshoot, repair, test, and maintain a broad range of information technology systems and equipment across schools and facilities.

The role requires strong knowledge of electronic, electrical, and mechanical components, with a focus on timely maintenance, safety, and effective communication with school staff. On-site visits and potential overtime are possible.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of IT systems maintenance/repair experience, with 1 year at journey level.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• May require shift work/overtime or standby status.
• Knowledge of IT systems hardware, testing, and repair processes.
• Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs.
• Ability to read/interpret instructions, diagrams, blueprints, and manuals.
• Keep records and generate reports.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, maintain, and repair IT systems and equipment (security, PA, LAN, audiovisual, etc.).
• Modify existing equipment and install new equipment as required.
• Serve on repair and ad hoc project teams; visit schools as scheduled.
• Coordinate with school personnel to resolve maintenance issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance and record results.
• Requisition parts and keep accurate logs.
