Job summary

John H. Carter Company is seeking an Instrument Technician for on-site field service in the ControlWorx Territory. You will diagnose, calibrate, start-up and commission instrumentation, and advise on repairs or upgrades.

Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS, and SCADA is required, with reading schematics and problem-solving skills. Must be able to work independently or with a team, maintain safety standards, and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma and 5 years in instrumentation.
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems (PLCs, DCS, SCADA).
• Able to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Self-directed field/shop work experience.
• Tubing bending/running experience preferred.
• TWIC, OSHA Safety, Security Passport.
• Valid state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Performs on-site demand and contract field services for instrumentation (diagnostic, calibration, start-up, commissioning).
• Recommends repairs, replacements and upgrades for customers.
• Provides informal/on-the-job customer training.
• Communicates customer needs to the organization; helps develop tactics.
• Partners with sales to drive service growth and satisfaction.
• Reports performance measures toward goals.
• Completes required reports, certificates and documents timely.
• Follows safety and quality rules and regulations.
• Travel as needed; regular attendance is essential.
