Job summary

RETTEW is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector / Resident Project Representative III to provide field representation for municipal infrastructure projects in southeastern Pennsylvania. The role requires interpreting plans, coordinating with contractors and clients, and maintaining thorough field documentation.

This is a full-time field-based position with daily driving to site locations in Berwyn, Lancaster, or Lehigh Valley, PA.

Qualifications

• Significant construction experience involving underground utilities or municipal infrastructure.
• Experience providing construction observation, inspection, field representation, construction coordination, or comparable project-site oversight.
• Ability to independently interpret construction plans, details, specifications, and project requirements.
• Ability to identify, document, and communicate construction deviations, changed conditions, quality concerns, and potential project risks.
• Experience maintaining daily construction records, photographs, quantity documentation, field reports, or similar project records.
• Ability to measure and verify installed work and construction quantities.
• Strong verbal communication skills and the confidence to communicate with contractors, clients, engineers, and municipal representatives.
• Clear and accurate written communication skills.
• Working computer skills to complete construction documentation electronically.

Responsibilities

• Provide construction observation and field representation for municipal infrastructure and utility projects.
• Observe work to ensure conformity with plans, specs, and standards.
• Monitor installations of water, wastewater, stormwater, roadway, and other municipal infrastructure.
• Interpret plans, specs, details, and project requirements in the field.
• Communicate deviations and issues to the Project Manager.
• Maintain daily logs of construction activities, personnel, equipment, weather, materials, and progress.
• Prepare photographs, sketches, quantity records, and observation reports.
• Document installations or field conditions that differ from the plans for record drawings.
• Review contractor-reported quantities and assist with estimates of completed work for payment.
• Coordinate with contractors, municipal representatives, engineers, property owners, and utility representatives.
• Provide timely updates to Project Managers about progress and risks.
• Support project closeout activities, punch-list observations, and documentation.
• Serve as a resource to less-experienced inspectors when needed.
• Follow RETTEW’s safety policies and project documentation standards.
