Job summary

ArborMetrics (AMS) is seeking a Utility Forester/Work Planner to join our vegetation management team. You will organize patrol records, assess sites for species and habitat concerns, and perform field duties including pruning, removal, and clearance actions along energy corridors.

Ideal candidates have forestry education or equivalent experience, GIS proficiency, and strong communication skills. This role requires outdoor work in varied conditions and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture or tree-related green industry preferred.
• Knowledge or practical experience in tree identification.
• Knowledge of common computer applications and ability to learn new programs.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
• Experience with GIS software/technology, Microsoft Office, and an iPhone.
• Ability to work alone outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Organize records, maps, and paperwork for patrol circuits and maintain documentation.
• Review work sites for endangered species, habitats, and incompatible vegetation.
• Safely patrol energy corridors on foot and identify vegetation for pruning or removal.
• Classify prescribed work per field conditions and may include herbicide use.
• Conduct Tree Risk Assessments and analyze growth rates.
• Mark vegetation and prescribe clearance actions per client directives and ANSI standards.
• Engage landowners and agencies to obtain permissions and communicate plans.
• Provide professional customer service and foster community relations.
• Audit contractor work for compliance with client specs.
• Investigate tree-related outages and document findings.
• Coordinate non-routine work with stakeholders and report safety concerns.
• Follow safety protocols and wear required PPE.
• Operate vehicles safely and travel to sites.
• Participate in storm and emergency response as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
