Job summary

Pearce is seeking an OSP Field Engineer to support on-site validation of fiber networks, including aerial, buried, and underground facilities. You will document field design layouts, collect measurements, and coordinate with engineering teams to resolve conflicts.

The role emphasizes GIS, AutoCAD familiarity, and strong written/verbal communication. Travel across multiple states is required; a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass background checks are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in the fiber-optic/telecommunications/telecom construction industry.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of outside plant activities (Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction, Conduit System design) and Make-ready issues.
• Ability to read as-built prints and identify conflicts with existing facilities.
• GIS experience (ESRI) and shapefile functionality.
• Able to identify utilities, conflicts, and regulatory standards (RUS, NESC, GO95, NEC).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; AutoCAD is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; pass background/drug checks.

Responsibilities

• Identify, photograph, and document details of required facilities (cables, poles, pedestals).
• Capture measurements of attachment heights, spans, and distances to lines and property boundaries.
• Identify power and communication facilities and ownership on poles.
• Record bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor information.
• Deliver field notes and photos to the engineering team.
• Identify obstructions to fiber placement and propose mitigations.
• Read and understand GIS maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
• Use tools like measuring wheels, height sticks, laser rangefinders, GPS devices; operate iPad/laptop for data sharing.
