Job summary

Astound Broadband is seeking an Outside Plant Technician I in Detroit, MI to maintain and repair aerial and underground coax and fiber infrastructure. This hands-on, field-based role requires working outdoors daily with bucket trucks, ladders and hand tools to restore service and support network reliability.

You will diagnose outages, perform emergency restoration, document work orders, and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years of hands-on telecom field work, cabling, construction, or utilities (coax, fiber, or electrical).
• Maintain satisfactory driving record and have a valid driver’s license.
• Customer service and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills and aptitude to learn new skills.
• Problem solving, time management and teamwork.
• Ability to read and interpret maps; bucket certified; understand Outside Plant.

Responsibilities

• Detect, troubleshoot and resolve outages in aerial and/or underground capacities.
• Prepare and perform emergency restoration of coaxial cable.
• Perform preventative maintenance and adjust components or equipment.
• Document work orders and daily logs; complete required documentation.
• Operate bucket trucks, ladders and field equipment; participate in on-call rotation.
• Observe and assist co-workers with fiber splicing activities.
