Point Broadband / Sunset Digital in Rose City, MI seeks a Fiber Technician to install, maintain, and repair fiber optic networks. The role includes splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and ensuring optimal performance, with project management and independent work capabilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; some college preferred.
• Experience in telecommunications, specifically with OSP fiber optics.
• Excellent organizational, mathematical, and computer skills.
• Experience reading street maps and system design prints.
• Proficient with fusion splicers, OTDR, fiber identifiers and scope.
• Strong independent worker with good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Prep and fusion or mechanical splice SM and occasionally MM fiber cables outdoors/indoors.
• Construct splice cases with grounding, bonding, slack storage and sealing.
• Place mid-sheath splices.
• Work with Construction PMs/OSP Engineers on splicing as directed.
• Test and troubleshoot fiber using OTDR, power meter, fiber identifier and scope.
• Provide detailed reports of field splicing activity to OSP Engineers.
• On-call rotation to restore services after emergencies.
• Review underground/aerial cable records from maps or field.
• Recommend changes in fiber routing or construction methods.
• Participate in engineering, permit and construction processes.
• Follow quality control guidelines and safety manuals (OSHA, FCC, NESC, NEC).
• Maintain vehicle/equipment; perform other duties.
