Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Environmental Scientist to perform building inspections and environmental sampling across the five boroughs, evaluating structures for asbestos, PCB-containing materials, and lead-based paint, ensuring regulatory compliance.

You will prepare detailed reports with drawings, photographs, and lab data, and collaborate with NYC agencies and project teams to advance safe, compliant environmental practices on diverse projects.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in environmental science or a closely related environmental field.
  • Proficiency in conducting building inspections for asbestos, PCB-containing materials, and lead-based paint.
  • Ability to interpret and apply NYC DEP Title 15, NYS ICR 56, and other relevant environmental regulations.
  • Experience working with NYC agencies such as Port Authority, NYCHHC, DCAS, and MTA.
  • Experience preparing and filing ACP forms using the NYC DEP ARTS system.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed building inspections to identify and assess asbestos, PCB-containing materials, and lead-based paint in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collect, label, and document environmental samples accurately, ensuring chain-of-custody and adherence to established protocols.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports that include sample location drawings, photographs, laboratory data, and clear interpretations of findings.
  • Interpret and apply NYC DEP Title 15, NYS ICR 56, and other applicable environmental regulations to ensure full compliance on all projects.
  • Work closely with NYC agencies such as the Port Authority, NYCHHC, DCAS, MTA, and others to coordinate inspections, reporting, and project activities.
  • Prepare and file ACP forms using the NYC DEP ARTS system, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Collaborate with a team of environmental scientists and technicians to support projects throughout the five boroughs.
  • Support environmental remediation and field activities as needed, including site visits, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including field notes, photographs, and regulatory documentation.
  • Promote safe work practices in the field and in the office, following OSHA and HAZWOPER standards.
