Job summary

Sagepllc seeks an experienced environmental scientist to visit active construction sites, collect and analyze samples using FAAS, PCM, PLM and TEM, and oversee remediation efforts. You will ensure QA and ISO 17025 compliance while coordinating schedules and client needs across multiple projects.

Both Master’s or Bachelor’s degrees with the required experience are acceptable. Travel to various worksites in the USA may be necessary, and the role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and timely reporting.

Job description

Visit commercial and residential construction sites to collect,compile, and analyze environmental samples using AtomicAbsorption Spectroscopy-Flame (FAAS), including air, water,soil, and all building materials, for scientific analysis toprevent chemical and biological pollutants. Analyze AirCassettes for Fiber in the Air using a Phase Contrast Microscope(PCM) and analyze Bulk Materials for Asbestos using a PolarizedLight Microscope (PLM).

Responsibilities
  • Develop plans to prevent, control, address, and monitorenvironmental (biological and chemical) problems.
  • Perform ongoing oversight of the remediation of biological andchemical hazards.
  • Verify the efficacy of remediation.
  • Monitor the work schedule procedures and adequately addresssite needs.
  • Maintain and adjust workflow to meet the turnaround schedules.
  • Perform asbestos, lead, and mold inspections and qualitycontrol asbestos analysis using Transmission ElectronMicroscopy (TEM).
  • Utilize measures to improve testing procedures and the use ofequipment, and validate SOP.
  • Resolve quality issues when they arise.
  • Ensure that the subcontracted laboratory maintains compliancewith the policies and procedures documented in the QualityAssurance Manual and with the requirements of ISO 17025, aninternational standard that specifies the competence,impartiality, and consistent operation of testing andcalibration laboratories.
  • Other similar professional duties as assigned.
Requirements

Requires a Master’s degree in Environmental Science,Biology, Biotechnology, or equivalent, and 5 years of experiencein the job offered or any occupation in which the requiredexperience was gained. Employer will accept a Bachelor’sdegree in Environmental Science, Biology, Biotechnology, orequivalent, and 7 years of experience in the job offered or anyoccupation in which the required experience was gained.

Experience to include:

  • Asbestos, lead, and mold inspections.
  • Analyses using PCM, PLM, TEM, and FAAS.
  • Work scheduling and workflows, and addressing clients’needs.
  • Ensuring a lab is compliant with policies and proceduresdocumented in the QA Manual and requirements as documented inthe ISO 17025 standard.
  • Project monitoring.

Various worksites: relocation to project-based unanticipatedworksites within the USA possible.
