Job summary

The Shelby County Highway Department is seeking an Engineering Assistant/Inspector I for a full-time, hourly civil position. The role supports engineering and construction projects through inspection, testing, documentation, drafting, and surveying assignments, interfacing with developers, utilities, consultants, contractors, and state agencies.

Responsibilities include providing inspection services, maintaining records, and reporting on road and bridge maintenance needs, while adhering to

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Four years' experience in inspection and management in highway construction, surveying, material testing, or CAD-related fields OR two years of college plus two years of related inspection experience.
Valid driver's license.
Willing to work outdoors and in extreme weather and nonstandard hours.

Responsibilities

Provides inspection services, testing, and documentation for road and bridge construction projects.
Investigates and documents citizen concerns regarding roadway and drainage issues.
Inspects County roadways and infrastructure and produces reports and determines need for repairs or maintenance.
Provides inspection and documentation for maintenance activities performed by County and contracted forces.
Maintains or assists in maintaining files and drawings.
Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
