Shelby County in Alabama seeks a Civil Engineer to assist the County Engineer in designing, planning, overseeing, and inspecting roadway and bridge construction and repair projects.
The role may supervise Engineering Assistants, coordinate utility relocations, perform drainage studies, and help with annual project planning and budgeting while ensuring safety and compliance. Office and field work will involve exposure to weather and heavy equipment.
Work involves assisting the County Engineer in technical and administrative duties, and designing, planning, overseeing and inspecting various roadway and bridge construction and repair projects. The position may also perform direct supervisory responsibilities for the reviewing and assigning of work of the Engineering Assistants.
Work is performed in an office environment and outdoors. This position is subject to extreme weather conditions and noise from heavy equipment. Exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, radiation, contagious disease, hazardous/toxic waste, etc.
Work is generally light in nature and consists of a nominal amount of lifting, climbing, bending, and walking. Field/site work assignments involve prolonged walking, standing, climbing, bending, driving, and lifting objects weighing 20 - 50 pounds.
