The Shelby County Highway Department is seeking an Engineering Assistant/Inspector I. This full-time, hourly position provides technical support on engineering and construction projects, including inspection, testing, drafting, surveying, and documentation.
Responsibilities include inspecting roadways and bridges, documenting maintenance needs, and coordinating with developers, contractors, and state representatives. Outdoor work, nonstandard hours, and a valid driver's license are required.
The Engineering Assistant/Inspector I is a full time, classified, hourly position that performs work for the Shelby County Highway Department. Work involves technical assistance on engineering and construction projects and related activities including inspection, testing, and documentation, drafting, and surveying assignments. Work involves interaction with developers, utility operators, consultant engineers, contractors, representatives for The Alabama Department of Transportation, and citizens of Shelby County. Work also includes other duties as assigned by supervision.
Work is performed primarily outdoors with extremes of cold and heat. Job site visits may include dust, uneven terrain, and proximity to moving construction equipment.
Work is light in nature and requires a significant amount of walking and standing and a negligible amount of lifting and bending.
