Job summary

Shelby County Highway Department is seeking an Engineering Assistant/Inspector II for full-time, hourly work. You will assist on engineering and construction projects, perform inspections, testing, documentation, drafting, and surveying tasks, and coordinate with developers, engineers, contractors, and agency representatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 8+ years' experience in inspection/management in highway construction, surveying, testing, or CAD (or 4 years college + 4 years of experience).
• Valid driver's license.
• Willing to work outdoors and in extreme weather.
• Willing to work nonstandard hours and more than 40 hours per week if necessary.
• All duties performed safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Provides inspection, testing, and documentation for road/bridge projects.
• Investigates citizen concerns regarding roadway and drainage issues.
• Inspects roadways/infrastructure and produces repair/maintenance reports.
• Provides inspection for maintenance by county and contracted forces.
• Maintains files and drawings as needed.
• Performs duties safely and efficiently; participates in other duties as assigned.
