Qualifications

• Requires a BS in Civil Engineering from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Certification as Engineering Intern by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors in Alabama.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Designs, plans, oversees and inspects roadway construction, maintenance and repair projects.
• Assists the County Engineer in a technical and administrative capacity as needed.
• Coordinates, oversees and inspects utility relocations in conjunction with highway construction projects.
• Performs drainage research and calculations.
• Performs research regarding drainage and flood information, traffic studies and other related information.
• Assists with annual project planning and ensures projects are within budget.
• Aids in planning and supervising Shelby County's annual paving contract and determining road resurfacing needs.
• Performs field tasks such as locating, surveying, staking and construction layout.
• Assist with project cost estimating and quantity takeoffs.
