Job summary

OmniAb is seeking a Field Engineer to support demonstrations, testing, QC, and field maintenance of the xPloration high-throughput screening platform. This onsite role travels to partner sites to demonstrate, install, maintain, and troubleshoot systems, collaborating with Field Applications, Technical Product Development, and Sales teams.

This role reports to the Senior Manager, Technical Product Development and is based in Durham, NC, with travel up to 75% of the time. Hours are 8am–5pm PT.

Qualifications

• BSc in Engineering or related technical field with 5+ years hands-on experience with complex lab or analytical instruments.
• Alternatively MSc in a relevant field with 2+ years hands-on experience.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills for hardware and software issues.
• Experience documenting service activities and producing clear, detailed reports.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to train others on equipment.
• Organized; able to balance field work, testing, and logistics.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
• Physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs and work in lab environments.
• Proficiency with MS Office and service management or ticketing software.
• Programming proficiency in Python, Java, C++.

Responsibilities

• Travel to partner sites to demonstrate, install, maintain, and repair xPloration instruments.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software problems using logs, schematics, and factory protocols.
• Share findings with Field Applications Scientists and Technical Product Development.
• Track service activities and coordinate instrument and consumable shipments.
• Contribute to SOPs, service procedures, and other technical documentation.
• Maintain accurate service records and QC documentation.
• Build diagnostic tools to speed up issue resolution and improve product data.
• Other duties as required.
