EWI Recruitment is seeking a practical Field Engineer to support installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of equipment at customer sites across the UK. You will work independently, diagnose faults and provide clear guidance while meeting safety and quality standards.

The role involves regular travel, occasional overnight stays, and flexible hours to meet urgent deadlines. A valid UK driving licence and engineering background are required for this field-based position.

Field Engineer

We are seeking a practical and technically minded Field Engineer to support the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems at customer sites. This role will suit someone who enjoys working independently, solving problems under pressure and delivering a high standard of service across varied locations.

You will work closely with customers, project teams and technical colleagues to ensure equipment is operating safely, efficiently and in line with agreed specifications. The position involves regular travel, including occasional overnight stays, and requires a flexible approach to working hours when urgent support or project deadlines demand it.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test, commission and maintain mechanical, electrical or technical equipment.
• Diagnose faults, identify root causes and complete repairs or corrective actions promptly.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, schematics and equipment documentation.
• Provide customers with clear technical guidance and demonstrate correct operation of systems.
• Complete accurate service reports, job records, risk assessments and expense documentation.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, service and project teams to resolve complex issues.
• Follow all health and safety procedures, site rules and quality standards.

About you

You will have proven experience in a field-based engineering, maintenance or technical support role, together with a relevant engineering qualification or equivalent practical expertise. A strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or control systems would be advantageous, depending on your technical background.

You should be confident using diagnostic tools, comfortable communicating with customers and capable of managing your own workload effectively. A full UK driving licence is essential, and willingness to travel throughout the UK is required. Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, utilities, construction or similar environments would be beneficial.
