Job Title: Field Engineer – Central Office Installation

Location: San Diego, CA (Los Angeles area considered secondary)

Pay Rate: $35–$40/hr (based on experience)

Type: Contract to Hire

STONE Resource Group is partnering with a leading telecommunications company to find a skilled Field Engineer with experience in central office installation. This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge infrastructure projects for some of the nation’s largest telecom providers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install telecommunications equipment in customer facilities and central office environments (ISP/OSP).
• Read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and Methods of Procedure (MOP).
• Load software, commission equipment, test functionality, and support circuit activation.
• Perform preventative/reactive maintenance using tools such as JDSU and Fiber Optic Power meters.
• Test and validate circuits (DS-1/3, OC-3 to OC-192, Gig-E, Fast Ethernet).
• Ensure timely and incident-free project completion, adhering to customer standards.
• Act as a liaison between customers and local supervisors for project status and coordination.
• Adapt quickly to evolving site conditions and maintain excellent documentation.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure and central office standards.
• Excellent customer service, verbal/written communication, and computer skills.
• Ability to travel within the region (San Diego primary, occasional visits to other markets).
• Reliable transportation and possession of basic tools.
• 3–6 years in a telecom installation role.
• Experience working with AT&T or Verizon highly preferred.
• Strong background in central office installation including cabling, racks, and fiber pathways.
• Familiarity with Telcordia GR-1275-CORE and TP76300 standards.

Experience with:

• Grounding, bonding, and power installations.
• Fiber optic installation and protection.
• Equipment removals and transitions.
• Job documentation and office records.
• Ability to perform work on live equipment and working circuits safely and effectively.
