Job summary

University of Nevada, Reno’s Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) seeks a Development Technician 2 to support field operations across western Nevada and adjacent states. Responsibilities include GPS station surveys, instrument deployment and data download, plus maintaining equipment and assisting NBMG faculty on research projects.

The role involves travel to remote locations, coordinating with NBMG staff, and handling warehouse tasks and vehicle pool management.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and one year of experience in fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of equipment; OR Associate’s degree in electronics and two years of experience.
Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

Perform field surveys of GPS stations, move, set up and retrieve instruments, download data and assist with training students.
Maintain NBMG GPS network instrumentation and equipment; purchase supplies as needed.
Manage department vehicle pool in coordination with NBMG staff; operate warehouse machinery (order pickers, pallet jacks).
Assist NBMG faculty with externally funded research projects and field operations, including warehouse transport of samples.
