Job summary

The Nevada Department of Transportation is hiring for an Engineering Technician 3 located in Reno, NV. The incumbent conducts field inspections, materials and soils testing, and drafting to support engineering projects; assists survey crews; maintains records; and ensures compliance with state and federal standards.

Office or field settings and possible overtime or travel may apply. Responsibilities include coordinating with engineers, reviewing contract documents, and performing calculations

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in engineering, physics, math or related field.
• Two years of relevant work experience with engineering procedures.
• Alternate path: high school diploma with two years of engineering-related experience.
• Experience as Engineering Technician II in Nevada state service is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers in field and laboratory tests and setup of equipment; collect data and ensure accuracy.
• Support water rights ownership, bid documents, plans, right-of-way plans, acquisition and disposal docs.
• Perform research to ensure compliance with federal/state requirements and revise procedures as needed.
• Maintain records and enter data for analysis; manage contract documents and plan specs.
• Conduct field inspections of construction projects, well locations and water use; map and report findings.
• Draft maps, charts, graphs, and tables for construction projects and right-of-way locations.
• Conduct surveying work including staking, establishing right-of-way lines, and topographical mapping.
• Perform material and soil testing in lab settings; document test results and procedures.
• Maintain and calibrate equipment; manage inventory and maintenance records.

Education

Associate's degree in engineering, physics, math or related field

High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years relevant experience

Experience as Engineering Technician II in Nevada State service
