Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer, Operations & Sustainment, to deploy, support, and sustain Hivemind products in real operating environments. You will work closely with customers and internal teams to install, configure, validate, train, troubleshoot, and capture field evidence.

The role requires strong technical judgment, clear customer communication, and the ability to turn field lessons into durable support artifacts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, CS, Robotics, Aerospace, or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years in field engineering, forward‑deployed engineering, or similar hands‑on technical role.
• Strong background in software engineering, systems integration, or autonomy‑adjacent systems.
• Proficiency writing, reading, and debugging modern C++ code.
• Proficiency with Python, Bash, or similar scripting for diagnostics and field workflows.
• Troubleshooting across Linux/embedded systems, networking, logs, telemetry, and sensors.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication, training, and escalation skills in customer‑facing environments.
• Willingness to travel at least 50% of the time including international trips.
• Ability to operate professionally in lab, flight-test, range, and customer sites under time pressure.

Responsibilities

• Deploy with customers on site globally, with a minimum 50% travel, to install, configure, validate, train, troubleshoot, and sustain Hivemind products.
• Become an expert user of the Hivemind Enterprise software stack and deployment tooling.
• Execute and improve deployment runbooks covering install, validation, licensing, pre-mission checks, and evidence readiness.
• Provide hands‑on technical support to operators, maintainers, partners, and internal teams during deployment and training.
• Capture field evidence for triage: logs, telemetry, data, screenshots, and context.
• Drive issues through intake, severity assessment, ownership, workaround, and closure processes.
• Convert recurring field issues into tickets, knowledge content, runbooks, and product feedback.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, sustainment, safety, and legal teams for issue routing and fixes.
• Support Field Service Representative obligations when required by contract.
