Job summary

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects is seeking a Construction Inspector in Wichita to conduct on-site inspections for transportation projects. The role involves documenting daily progress, sampling materials, reading plans, and reporting deviations.

Travel required; DOT experience preferred and KDOT certification a plus. The position emphasizes accurate records and effective communication with project teams.

Qualifications

• Able to travel and perform on-site observation and testing.
• Capable of lifting 50+ pounds.
• Knowledge of MoDOT specifications and typical construction practices.
• Ability to work independently with strong time management.
• Strong written and oral communication with owners and contractors.
• Experience with DOTs or municipalities preferred.
• KDOT Technician Certification is a plus or willingness to obtain it.

Responsibilities

• Observe and inspect construction projects from start to finish with thorough daily progress records.
• Read and interpret plans, specs, and contract docs; report deviations.
• Conduct laboratory and field testing on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and materials.
• Maintain clear written and oral communication and respond to inquiries.
• Attend meetings to gain project insight before construction and during progress updates.
• Measure distances and document work completed with accurate math and records.
