Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our team in Lowell, MA, conducting on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, industry standards, and federal regulations.

You will review submittals, monitor progress, and maintain detailed daily reports, deficiency notices, project status reports, and technical recommendations while coordinating with engineers, project management, and clients on-site.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Able to pass a federal background check.
• Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Demonstrates knowledge of construction processes for large projects.
• Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Familiar with computers/tablets/phones.
• Strong technical writing and communication with contractors, engineers, and clients.
• Ability to work with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Conducts on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects for compliance with design specs and safety codes.
• Documents inspection results, deficiencies, and sampling as required.
• Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications with engineers and project teams.
• Monitors construction progress; prepares daily reports, deficiency notices, and status reports.
• Inspects materials and testing processes to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Oversees field services, enforcing safety, environmental, quality, and permitting requirements.
• Participates in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, and project closeout activities.
• Ensures compliance with guidelines and delivers technical documentation as required.
• Develops and mentors junior staff; serves as liaison between contractors, engineering staff, and client.
• Performs other duties as required.
