Job summary

CDM Smith seeks an on-site Construction Inspector to verify safety, quality, and compliance on infrastructure projects. You will review submittals, monitor progress, document deficiencies, and coordinate with engineers and clients in the field.

Domestic and overseas travel is possible; a US driver’s license is required. Candidates must be able to pass a federal background check and read engineering drawings.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Able to pass a federal background check.
• Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the construction process for large commercial, municipal or federal projects.
• Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Familiar and comfortable to work on computers/tablets/phones.
• Strong technical writing and oral communication skills and ability to interface with contractors, engineers, and federal clients.
• Ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently in field conditions with minimal direction.
• Good interpersonal skills to cultivate relationships with colleagues, customers, and partners.

Responsibilities

• Conducts on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects as well as related civil structures to verify compliance with approved design specifications, industry standards, safety codes, and applicable federal regulations.
• Documents inspection results inclusive of deficiencies, deterioration, structural condition, deviations between design and execution of construction, required corrective actions and any needed sampling.
• Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications in coordination with engineers and project management teams.
• Monitors construction progress, prepares and maintains detailed daily reports, deficiency notices, project status reports, and technical recommendations.
• Inspects and verifies construction materials and testing processes to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
• Oversees and coordinates field construction related services on projects, enforcing adherence to safety, environmental, quality control, and permitting requirements
• Conducts site investigations, reviews relevant data including maps, reports, test results, drawings and others as required.
• Participates in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, technical assessments, safety meetings, and project closeout/punch list activities.
• Ensures compliance with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc. and delivers technical files and other technical documentation as required.
• Develops, trains, and mentors junior construction professionals, provides technical direction, and serves as a liaison between contractors, engineering staff, and client.
• Performs other duties as required.
