Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. in Madison, WI, is seeking a field-based CDL Driver to operate hi-rail trucks and detector cars across the Eastern/Western US. You will support testing operations, follow DOT regulations, and travel for extended periods, ensuring safety and data collection at each site.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Must pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check where permitted by law.
• Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (3–4 months at a time) within assigned regions.
• Operate hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars on roadways and railroad tracks; perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
• Maintain DOT compliance including driver logs, inspections, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with rail flaw detection testing and data collection; monitor onboard computer systems.
• Perform routine vehicle maintenance and maintain cleanliness of vehicle and equipment.
• Follow all safety policies and DOT/FRA regulations; wear PPE; complete training including annual Road Worker Safety.
• Communicate with crew via radio/intercom; report safety concerns and equipment issues.
